SUMMARY:

The United States has the worst maternal morbidity rate and preterm birth rate of any developed nation. Black pregnant people have three times the risk of maternal mortality compared with white pregnant people. Founded in 2019, Quilted Health wants to change that. Quilted envisions a world where equity and access are at the center of reproductive health. The Quilted team is building a new model to dramatically advance maternal and infant health equity through human-centered pregnancy care that embraces community, personal stories and lived experiences. Quilted’s unique approach supports people with uplifting and holistic care and thoughtfully incorporates the creative use of technology and design to reach people everywhere. Quilted is based in Seattle, WA, and is backed by Blue Venture Fund and Town Hall Ventures.

OUR RELATIONSHIP:

The state of maternal health in the U.S. led the Town Hall Ventures investment team to explore the maternal health landscape over months of sectoral research and conversations with maternal health market experts in 2018 and 2019. Ultimately, they did not find an existing company that they felt addressed the specific needs of medicaid mothers and people of color, and thus the Oxeon Venture Studio began concept development for a de novo company. The Oxeon Venture Studio team developed a business plan, refined the clinical model, identified strong investment partners, led market targeting analyses, and led value-based customer conversations with MCOs across the U.S. to set Quilted up for success. We utilized the Oxeon network to validate the concept and our approach, and eventually recruited Quilted’s CEO, Christine Henningsgaard to lead the company. We continue to leverage our network to connect great talent and business development opportunities to Quilted, while also serving as members of the Board of Directors.
